A message from Kaboom
How it all started
GeeksNetwork, originally Gaming-Geeks, was founded in the early part of 2008 by Steve (aka
Phairchild) and Carlos (aka
Risk) on a free IPB board. This small site was full of big ideas and the staff to help get them there. Of the original staff the most prominent were Sunny (aka
Sunny_Syed) and Ryan (aka Gekko_Gear) who joined the administration team early on and helped set up the site and recruit more members.
Over the first month the site grew at an astounding rate for a board of it's type. In the first 3 weeks they had already received over 400 new members and close to 3000 posts. They became one of the most, if not the most, popular coding sites for SOCOM: FIRETEAM BRAVO 1 for the Playstation Portable device. As their reputation began to spread across the game other developers soon became interested in the website. Of these developers was a user known as P72OTOTYPE. He had already been successful with his own sites (ftbnation.com and the exon clan site) and was welcomed to the site with open arms from his friends, Sunny and Ryan, who were admin's at the time. After a quick application for a staff position, P72OTOTYPE was soon approved for an admin position after just 3 days of being with the site. He leaped at the offer and became the newest member of the Gaming-Geeks staff.
A new plan developed
P72OTOTYPE was not content with his position on the site and had even bigger and better plans to improve the site. After consulting with Risk they came up with a plan to improve the site and bring it to a whole new level. P72OTOTYPE started developing a new website on his own server using his vBulletin script and a new custom design he had made for the site in preparation. Risk bought a new server for their group and they transferred over to the new server with the vBulletin and new domain, Gaming-Geeks.net. P72OTOTYPE set up the new board with Phairchild as the first account and then registered his own account (now known as Kaboom) and Risk's before the board was even known about. All the other admins where sent a message about the new board and began bringing all the forums and posts over to the new site. Once all the posts had been brought over and rules established along with groups, the existing domain was redirected to the new site which was awaiting all the users. Sadly this meant restarting from very little posts and loss of all the original users but that was quickly overcome as the site boomed even more and soon passed the users and post mark of the older forum. All seemed like it was going well and things only seemed to be getting better, and then the problems started.
The Beginning of trouble
The site had not seen any problems that could not be quickly handled. As more and more users began to register one user in particular began to stand out above the rest, known as Ajis19 (later Phoenix). Ajis19 was a good user, no scratch that, Ajis19 was the BEST user the site had seen so far. He was VERY active in posting and a very strong believer in community values. As the community was growing and needed more active staff to be on the site, when Ajis19 applied for staff he was quickly granted staff position and became the first ever Junior Admin on Gaming-Geeks.
This would have been a great thing for the site, had other users not become jealous of him. Gekko_Gear quickly became against Ajis19 being staff at all and felt that Kaboom had gone behind the backs of the other admins in recruiting him as his own personal junior admin. This caused a huge rift in the community as members started picking sides on who was right and who was wrong. The issue kept escalating until it was evident that something bad was going to happen, and it did. Gekko left the site along with Phairchild to go do other projects and Kaboom and Risk and Ajis19 were left to fix what had happened. The site had some major changed, including but not limited to a name change to GeeksNetwork and Ryan and Steve being removed from admin while Ajis19 was promoted to admin in their place.
Soon later they both returned demanding their ranks back, proclaiming that they had unjustly lost their ranks and had been had. I am unclear as to how exact details went after this point but Gekko again ended up leaving, Phair returning as a ranked admin (now called system admins) on probation, and Ajis19 being temporarily banned and returned to a moderator position. A lot of drama and bullshit went down between Kaboom, Ryan, Steve, Ajis19, and a few of the other members at the time while all the while Sunny and Risk stayed in the background making the site better and trying to stop a total collapse of the hierarchy.
A new era
A while passed between the intense arguments and Kaboom took direct control of the website which was now entirely ran by himself and Risk. They had been doing all the posting, coding, and moderation of the site while other members of the staff stood around with their fingers planted in their anus (excluding Sunny). Again a huge argument erupted which resulted in Gekko_Gear having his account deleted and all the other staff being demoted. This argument was mostly due to a disagreement in the development team of our new game. For a video of the event's please see Ajis19, now Phoenix's, video about the event found here:

Briefly during this period of time 1UP also became a member of the administration team but quickly gave up his rank seeing how butt hurt some people became when he was promoted. After ALL of that blew over finally the site was able to become a better place, the new ranks settled in, and everyone stopped being a butt hurt 12 year old. Finally the forums where redone and the VIP became a very popular thing as the site expanded farther into other genres of forum topics and moved away from the dieing systems of PSP.
What the future holds
I am very aware that a lot of the past of the site has been missed out in this page but to write it all would take up a lot of time, space, and effort that we plan to be using for other things. And hey, who cares about the past now, the future is totally where it's at! But what does the future for our site hold?
GeeksNetwork will be a fully functioning reviews website as well as a forum, offer scripts for public and private use, grant users the ability to sell their own scripts via paypal or moneybookers through our new systems, and much much more, but also we plan to be one of the best community orientated sites around and will do our best to make our site more user friendly, accessible, and enjoyable for all ages and types of people. We are committed to making your experience on our website wonderful and enjoyable as well as informative and fun. If you have any comments or suggestions we will gladly listen to them (they may be submitted through our contact us page or via the feedback section on the forums).
